This Day in History: 1614-01-26
Hester Sallisburye was killed by a stag in Stansted park on this day in 1614. Now buried in St Mary’s Church, Stansted Mountfitchet, the effigy of Hester Sallisburye wears her riding outfit and amazing hat – the style of clothing in which she may have died while out hunting. She was wife of Sir Henry Sallisburye, first Baronet of Llewenny.
